The Monolith at Merrivale, Dartmoor, England.
I took this today during the Partial Solar Eclipse (11th September 2007) but the eclipse was not viewable from this latitude.
Thanks. I did take this from several different angles in colour but this shot was pointing up towards the sun so had lots of light and shadow so the colour detail was poor. Shooting in B&W though seemed perfect for it. My other shot Menhir shows better colour detail of this.
Its the angle of this shot which gives it the 'wow' factor, and the forms of the clouds. The original colour version - did you try increasing the saturation in Photoshop ?
I was lying on my back shooting upwards towards the sun which was tricky as there were cowpats all around! I just looked in my folder but I don't have a colour version of this one as I had set my camera to monochrome especially to take it. I did get a colour shot taken portrait orientation but it's not nearly as dramatic. I shot at a low ISO setting and stopped the camera up to f22 to make the clouds stand out more. Sometimes I do increase the saturation in photoshop or picassa and then convert to B&W as that can have a similar effect. Really glad you like it, thanks
